I'll be the first to admit it, back in 1997, when I heard they were coming out with a Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show, I laughed. I saw the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie at the theater and I was really hopeful, but it left me less than impressed. It can be really hard to harness the combination of horror and comedy and make it work. So I imagined the TV show would end up being goofy and not last very long. Needless to say, I didn't watch it. I was in college, working two jobs and didn't have time to watch much TV. However I ended up driving my baby brother to school, so I'd have to wake up early in the morning. The only thing on TV that was worth watching at 7am was reruns of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I knew the characters and it ended up making my morning routine enjoyable. At the time it was still airing new episodes, so I made sure I caught up and saw ALL of them. Now I have every season on DVD and it's my go-to when I want some background TV on at home.

 It goes without saying that I need to celebrate Buffy the Vampire Slayer's 20th anniversary. It's my absolute FAVORITE TV show, even after all these years. No other show has ever compared ~ monsters, action and whitty comedy ~ count me in! It's a shame it only lasted seven seasons and Supernatural is on thirteen. (Yeah, I wrote about how I'm plowing though it ~ in the middle of season 3 right now. You can read my thoughts so far here.) Buffy is an inspiration, so I'm going to share with you my top 20 reasons (in no particular order) why I love it and hopefully, if you haven't watched it, you'll give it a chance like I did.

1. Anyone can be a fighter and fight the good fight, even a little blonde girl.

2. If Billy Idol and David from The Lost Boys had a baby it would be Spike.

3. There's a singing episode called "Once More with Feeling".

4. There's a silent episode, that's pretty creepy called "Hush". It's Emmy nominated.

5. Willow, Buffy's best friend, is the first portrayal of a lesbian on US TV!

6. Fashion ~ the 1990s style ~ Willow's bad sweaters ~ Xander's Hawaiian shirts.

7. Buffy works at Doublemeat Palace at one point, and I really feel that everyone should work in food service at least once.

8. The slang on the show has become part of the real world vocabulary. For example, nouns become verbs, adjectives become nouns. i.e. The Wig = the creeps. Used in a sentence, "You gave me the wig." Can also be wiggins, major wig etc.

9. The special effects are sometimes laughable, but you have to remember this isn't a movie, it was a mini movie on EVERY WEEK. I'd say that's still impressive.

10. Anya, Xander's girlfriend, is my spirit animal. She fears rabbits and I fear of butterflies. (I don't want to talk about it.)

11. There's werewolves too. Even though I'm an Anya, Oz is my favorite character.

12. There's messy life stories going on, and lots of metaphors for real life that people can relate to.

13. Buffy's mom dies in "The Body" episode and doesn't come back, well not permanently. You'd think with a show where Buffy always wins the fight, there would be no tragedy. Yes, likeable characters get killed off.

14. Xander in a speedo. (You just have to watch the episode for that.)

15. The bands that play at the Bronze for the most part are real bands, and truly the soundtrack for 1990s alternative music. The Breeders, Aimee Mann, and Cibo Matto are some examples.

16. The acting is good.

17. Without Buffy there would be no Hunger Games, or even Jessica Jones.

18. It subverts expectations with plot twists. Check out the Halloween episode "Fear Itself", it's my pick for best plot twist. You have to watch it through to the end though!

19. Buffy's an empowering feminist leader that fights many misogynistic monsters, some in the form of men.

20. Buffy gives the greatest inspirational speeches. Here's a sample of one toward the finale of the show.

Finally, I hope that the Buffy inspired line of clothes coming out from Hot Topic this year is cool and not just repros of Willow's pink fluffy sweater...

If you've been following my blog, you know I'm working my way through the Supernatural TV show. (You can read my random thoughts on Seasons 1 & 2 here and Seasons 3 & 4 here, along with Ginger Roger's crush on Sam Winchester.) ***Warning there's a lot of spoilers in this post.

MINUS- I have to say a lot of Seasons 5 and 6 have the same problems I mentioned before i.e. no good female characters. In the beginning of Season 5 Ellen & Jo are back. Yay! They are worthy female characters but unfortunately they sacrifice themselves to the hellhounds for the Winchesters and die. Boo. Then there was a teaser episode when they were both back in an alternate dimension, but that only lasted one episode, then they were dead again.

MINUS- I feel like I'm watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer again ~ not that it's a bad thing ~ but I expect some new ideas from Supernatural. At the end of season 5 Sam jumps into hell to save everyone and avoid the apocalypse, but first he beats up Dean, but has flashbacks of growing up with Dean. It was very Buffy when Zander snaps Willow out of it with the yellow crayon story. OR when Sam came back from hell without a soul, also known as Buffy coming back from heaven wrong. OR when Samuel collects monsters to question them, just like the Initiative in Buffy. OR The "Mother of All" aka The Master from Buffy. Ok, I'm done. If you're not a Buffy fan you need to watch it. It's only 7 seasons compared to Supernaturals 13.

MINUS- Season 6, episode 16 "...And Then There Were None" This is by far the worst Supernatural episode ever. (I feel I can say this after watching 120 of them.) The dialog, storyline, and acting is terrible. It's def one you can skip.

MINUS- Get poor Castiel some chapstick. ~ I mentioned this before. I know they film in Canada where it's cold, but damn.

PLUS- The plot of Season 5 in a tiny nutshell is to find God and kill Lucifer. Unfortunately Sam is Lucifer's vessel and Dean is the Archangel Michael's vessel. Eventually they are poised to fight each other in an epic apocalyptic battle. (Isn't that always the case?) So there's a lot of Sam and Dean acting more like a couple that's dating then a monster killer team. It works. They play off each other very well. Season 6 is Sam is back from hell, fighting monsters with his grandfather Samuel, but he's different and soul-less. Then the "Mother of All" gets raised and they have to fight her.

PLUS- Again they are sticking with some funny episodes between the more serious ones. Some great ones are...

Season 5, episode 5 "Fallen Idols" has a cameo by Paris Hilton, there's James Dean's car and even an appearance by Abe Lincoln! (Well not THEE Honest Abe, but you get my drift.)

Season 5, episode 8 "Changing Channels" Sam and Dean are stuck as characters on rotating TV shows. They are placed there by an angel that wants them to assume their roles for the apocalypse.

Season 5, episode 9 "The Real Ghostbusters" takes place at a Supernatural fan convention.

Season 6, episode 5 "Live Free or Twihard" showcases Sam and Dean finding out Twilight fans can be easily lured by vampires.

Season 6, episode 15 "The French Mistake" is the ultimate show within a show. The Winchesters get sent to an alternate reality where they are themselves on Supernatural. What they know about demons and is not real. Puts a new spin on it.

Season 6, epsiode 18 "Frontierland" is really fun and the boys get to go back in time to the Wild West. I found this episode to be very creative.

PLUS- Some of the more serious episodes flesh out other characters. There's a whole episode from Bobby's perspective, Season 6, episode 4 "Weekend at Bobby's". There's one for Castiel too, Season 6, episode 20 "The Man Who Would be King".

PLUS- Crowley is introduced and you can't really tell if he's good or bad yet. He gets Bobby walking again and gives the Winchesters the colt revolver to kill Lucifer.

PLUS- There's a Buffalo, NY episode!!! I should mention that Buffalo looks nothing like it's pictured. Lol.

PLUS- The Four Horsemen's rings are needed to put Lucifer in hell. I love the Death horseman actor. He plays a witty role and loves good food. He also gives Sam his soul back.

PLUS- I'm still enjoying the opening sequences and recap. It can be hard to keep track of everything going on. (I'm looking at you David Lynch and Twin Peaks: The Return.)

PLUS/ MINUS- We get to see what Dean's "normal" life would be like without Sam, but with Lisa. Lisa is cool in the beginning, she understands that Dean is a hunter, then she gets annoying really quick by all of a sudden not being ok with his lifestyle. So that started off good.

There needs to be a drinking game....take a shot when Sam and Dean get killed and when they actually drink on the show. It happens A LOT. Excuse me while I grab a beer...

You thought I forgot, nope, it's just been a busy few months! This is a post on Supernatural Seasons 7 & 8. You can read my random thoughts on seasons 1 & 2 here, 3 &4 here, and 5 & 6 here. Warning: Lots of confusing spoilers! Lol.

In Season 7 we basically loose Castiel and Bobby. Castiel comes back as Emmanuel and they leave him in a mental hospital after he risks his life to remove Lucifer from Sam's head, then he's an angel again and gets sent to purgatory with Dean, he gets pulled out of purgatory and is an angel, then a human with angel radio. Bobby is a ghost for a hot minute and ends up in purgatory in season 8, then heaven. Ugh.

One of the main underlying storylines...Basically there are two tablets, one is a demon tablet to close hell and one is an angel tablet to close the gates of heaven. Kevin Tran is the prophet that can translate them, along with Megatron...... er I mean Metatron that actually wrote the tablets. They both list three trials that one must endure to close either. Sam ~ of course ~ is the one who begins the trials to close hell. First he must soak in the blood of an invisible hellhound, send an innocent to heaven (which ends up being Bobby), and cure a demon (which ~ in a plot twist ~ could have been the King of Hell Himself Crowley).

This time I'll start with the pluses.

Can I just say there really needs to be a Supernatural drinking game? When you should drink...

1. When Sam or Dean "dies".
2. When they actually drink on the show.
3. When Bobby says, "Balls."
4. When they show blood splatter.
5. When they say "ganked". (I kind of cringe when they say it, it's an ugly word.)

SO MUCH BLOOD SPLATTER. Yeah, I get that it's cheaper than special effects, but they must go through gallons and gallons! Oh by the way, this would be under my PLUS column.

PLUS- There's a Sam as a teenager episode that's refreshing, because you don't see too many flashbacks when they are young on this show, and I LOVE a good flashback. It's Season 7, episode 3 "The Girl Next Door". You see Sam as a young hunter and Amy as a young monster. She's referred to a lot in the beginning of this season even though she's only in one episode. Bonus: Amy is played by Jewel Staite from Firefly. Yes, I'm a Firefly fan, but more of a Whedon one. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the best. Shhhh, don't argue.

PLUS- SPEAKING OF BUFFY- James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter, both actors on Buffy, are in an episode where they play married witches. Outstanding. I love them all together. It's Season 7, episode 5 "Shut up, Dr. Phil".

Mayor Richard Wilkins III from Buffy, the actor  Harry Groener also makes an appearance in Season 7, episode 13 "The Slice Girls" as a professor. It's a parallel to an Angel episode, Season 1, episode 12, where Cordelia gets pregnant and comes to full term in a day.

PLUS- Jo is back! Unfortunately it's only for one episode where she is a ghost that tries to kill Dean. (insert sad face here). Season 7, episode 4 "Defending your Life".

PLUS- There's a Lilydale, NY episode!!! I should mention that Lilydale looks nothing like it's pictured. Lol. Season 7, episode 7 "The Mentalists".

PLUS- In Season 7, episode 10 "Death's Door" Bobby gets shot and the whole episode takes place in his head, where he's trying to avoid the reaper, but you get to see flashbacks of his traumatic childhood and how it shaped his future as a father. This is a great episode. By the end he's still in a coma though, so it leaves you hanging...again. So good. So sad.

PLUS- I'm still enjoying the opening sequences and recap especially when they are themed to the episode like Season 7, episode 8 "Season Seven, Time for a Wedding".

PLUS- Time travel with Chronos and Elliott Ness, Season 7, episode 12 "Time After Time". I kinda love the time travel episodes. Dean in vintage styling works perfectly.

PLUS- Garth ~ another hunter ~ has wonderful 1990s theme songs and one is Bel Biv DeVoe's "Poison". He kills the tooth fairy at one point. He replaces Bobby...in his own way. He's the comic relief hunter, but he still does his job. Oh and he's a hugger.

PLUS- The new villian in Season 7 is Dick Roman. Everytime he says his own name he smirks and it makes me laugh out loud. It's WAY over the top.

PLUS- Charlie played by Felicia Day is the perfect hacker that the show needs. She appeals to the girl audience and she's perfect for the fan boy cult followers of the show because she has a nerd fan base of her own. It's hinted at that she has a back story we'll probably find out about in the future. Season 7, episode 20 "The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo".

Charlie is back in the Season 8, episode 11 "LARP and the Real Girl". She part of a LARPing group that really speaks to the nerds that watch the show.

"Pac Man Fever" Season 8, episode 20 is outstanding. Charlie contacts the Winchesters because she's in town visiting her hospitalized mother and she has a case for them. Charlie has been in trouble with the law since she was 12, she's been on the run and paying hospital bills since then. The storyline and acting is truly well done. There's even an alternate reality to 1951. This episode really shows that the Winchesters are Charlie's only family and that's she's a strong female character. Finally! It only took 8 seasons for them to realize women watch the show, not just for the hot main actors.  

PLUS- Ms. Tran the mom of the newly introduced prophet Kevin Tran. She's kick ass. She's smart and sassy and can hold her own, sadly she dies at the hands of Crowley.

PLUS- Cas is removed from purgatory by angels and in Season 8, episode 8"Hunteri Heroici" it's adorable when he interrogates the cat in the nursing home.

PLUS- Sam and Dean find out they are part of the Men of Letters, and ancient organization that fights monsters. They also find out where the abandoned lair for the Men of Letters is located and start living there. It's a pretty sweet art deco Batcave!

MINUS- Dean has a very soft spot for kids, as a result of living a normal life for a year a couple of seasons ago. He was living with his girlfriend and her little boy. This makes some episodes very predictable i.e. Season 7, episode 3 "The Girl Next Door" he let's Amy's son go even though he's a monster or Season 7, episode 11 "Adventures in Babysitting" or Season 7, episode 14 "Plucky Pennywhistles Magical Menagerie" or Season 7 Episode 22 "There Will Be Blood" when they take a little boy away from the Alpha vamp. This is pointless to the story.

MINUS- I miss the black Impala. They are going incognito and using a bunch of different cars in Season 7. In season 8 it comes back ...FINALLY!

MINUS- Annie ~ another hunter ~ is a great character, but she dies the first time we meet her. Gah. Season 7, episode 19 "Of Grave Importance".

MINUS- SO MANY FLASHBACKS in Season 8 and not just in the opening. The show is trying to recap a year between season 7 and 8 where Sam had a normal life with a girlfriend named Amelia, while Dean was in purgatory constantly fighting monsters with his vampire friend Benny. You know when a flashback is coming when they begin to stare off into space.

MINUS- Season 8 episode 16, "Remember the Titans" is a terrible story line, the writing is bad, and it's not worth watching.

PLUS/ MINUS- You know I like the funny episodes and in Season 7, episode 8 "Season Seven, Time for a Wedding" I think it was meant to be funny, but I found it sad. We get to see Becky aka the biggest Sam Winchester fan ever from Season 5. (She's the one that tricked the boys into attending a Supernatural convention.) Well in this episode she's attending a high school reunion and everyone makes fun of her. I thought she was cute, and for the show she's comic relief, but they make fun of her a lot. I guess I relate too much to her. She feels like a looser and just wants people to like her.

I really don't like season 8 and care nothing for the Crowley/ Castiel story line. However it ended with angels falling from the sky, Sam almost dead, Castiel without angel powers, and Crowley almost cured from being a demon. This has peaked my interest. On to Season 9.

You thought I forgot, but yes I feel like I'm in the home stretch of Supernatural. This blog is about seasons 11 and 12, but you can read my thoughts on 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8, and 9&10. It's been a long haul and now season 13 is on Netflix and I feel like I'll never get caught up! Until then, you can follow my other ramblings, who knows maybe I'll take up a new series to blog about. (One that's not 13 seasons long!)

I felt season 11 was the weakest of all the seasons, until the very end, that's why it took me so long to get through. (Sorry for the delay in reviewing.) In this season we find "The Darkness" takes over and sweeps Dean away from Sam. We find out The Darkness is a woman that has the Mark Of Cain, therefore has a connection to Dean, but first she turns into a baby named "Amara", then a young girl and Crowley takes her as his own daughter, feeding her souls. Each time she feeds she gets older and is growing at a rapid pace making Crowley uneasy until she becomes a woman again. (Side note: Why did we have to go through her baby phase?) The Darkness is the biggest oldest thing they've ever had to fight and we find out she is the sister to the big G-O-D. Who just happens to be in the form of Chuck the "prophet of God" that we were introduced to a couple years ago.

Chuck aka God and Amara aka The Darkness are brother and sister.

Cas finds Metatron who is living as a human because his grace is gone. Metatron is the one that reveals that The Darkness is God's sister. God aka Chuck recruits Metatron to help edit his Autobiography, and Metatron finds out that he is going to let The Darkness take over his "experiment" aka the earth and everything surrounding it. Metatron ends up getting killed by Amara.

The gang: Dean, Sam, Cas with Lucifer in him, Crowley, and Rowena take the Darkness on a couple of times before they decide to blow her up with a soul bomb that's housed in Dean. God intervenes and both him and The Darkness make up and live happily ever after, but first they remove the bomb from Dean and grant him his deepest wish. The Darkness brings back his mom, Mary Winchester!!!

Yep, that's how the Season 11 ends ~ with Mary back! 

(I love that the same actress plays her.)

Meanwhile, Sam keeps having visions of the cage in hell. It has that Hellraiser feel again. Like when Dean was in hell back in Season 3. Sam ends up confronting Lucifer in his trapped cage, accidentally releasing him and Lucifer takes over Cas' body. Misha Collins that plays Cas is great because he's had a chance to play so many different characters. You can tell when he is someone else even though he looks the same. He takes over different mannerisms really really well. It's fun to watch.

Rowena is still in the picture because she's powerful and still has the Book of the Damned, but it can't help against The Darkness. Oh and her dresses are still stunning.

Just look at that blue dress Rowena is sporting! Sequins and all!

By the end of Season 11, the sun is fading and everyone thinks it's being caused by The Darkness, but she's not doing anything. We find out the Men of Letters London Chapter blames Sam and Dean for the sun fading, and the representative Toni Bevell from London office comes and possibly shoots Sam in the last episode of Season 11. We are left hanging until the next season. Sam could die without knowing that Dean is still alive and his mom is back!

Season 12 is all about the Men of Letters as per the opening sequence. We find out there is a Men of Letters London Chapterhouse, and Toni feels that Sam and Dean are just as bad as the monsters they hunt. She would be content to kill them. We also meet Mick and Ketch from London. Mick is trying to recruit American hunters to kills monsters their way because they have better technology, but he's having a hard time. Ketch is the guy that kills to clean up loose ends. Mary Winchester starts working for the Men of Letters behind her boys backs, but eventually Sam and Dean agree to work with them. Little do the Winchesters know that the Men of Letters have bugged the bunker. We also find out that since recruitment didn't go as planned, the London Chapter wants to kill ALL the American hunters including Sam and Dean, but not Mary because she is such a skilled fighter. They brainwash Mary into killing the American hunters for them. Eventually she snaps out of it and what's left of the American hunters go in and attack the Men of Letters killing all of them in their hideout.

Lucifer after leaving Cas is now in Vince Vincente, an ageing hair metal rock star, played by Rick Springfield. I was impressed with his acting. (Side note: Rick Springfield was in the pilot of my fav vampire TV show Nick Knight, which turned into Forever Knight.) Then Lucifer enters a priest, then the President of the US. While in the President he has relations with a gal named Kelly and she becomes pregnant with his baby, making the baby a nephilim. She wants to keep the baby. She goes missing and Dagon one of the Princes of Hell, starts taking care of her and hides her from the Winchesters. Kelly tried to kill herself but the baby saves her. (Kinda predictable.)

Cas is also recruited by heaven to kill Kelly's baby, but he can't do it. He knows there can be a better way. At first he wants to take her to heaven killing both of them. Then He has a vision of the future from the baby and hides her away in a remote cottage. Sam and Dean want to cast a spell making her baby normal instead of a nephilim. But everything happens too late.

The last episode of Season 12 is action packed. Sam, Dean, Crowley, and Mary find Cas and pregnant Kelly. Even before her baby is born it opens a rift in space and time that looks like a light up rip. Cas touches it and gets transported to a parallel earth dimension where Bobby is still alive!!!! BUT Sam and Dean were never born.

Gotta love Bobby being back.

In the meantime, Lucifer finds Kelly and Cas too. The team lures Lucifer into the other world hoping to trap him by closing the door to the other dimension. In order to do that, a life must be given and Crowley sacrifices himself! The rift ends up closing but not before Lucifer kills Cas and drags Mary back into the bizarro  dimension. Oh and Kelly has her baby and dies, only it's not a baby but a young man. There's a lot to take in in this episode.

With Mary Winchester back, she's finally the string female character they need. It only took 12 seasons to figure that out! Grrrr argggg.

PLUS- "Baby" Season 11, episode 4 is completely shot from the perspective of the Impala. She actually gets a lot of information and sees s lot. It's just an interesting vantage point.

PLUS- "Plush" Season 11, episode 7. Sheriff Donna returns aka "fat sucking Donna" from a couple season ago. She's great, and a strong female character. She's perfect. This episode is about a vengeful spirit that is attached in old plush costumes. This is totally an episode I would have written. I do a lot of thrift shopping and I can't even imagine what other lives some things may have. The giant furry heads get stuck on the wearer until they kill. The costumes include a bunny, jester, clown, and deer. So many terrifying bunnies. Anya in Buffy (reference) was terrified of bunnies, and all I could think of was the movie Summer School with bunnies or Monty Python with bunnies. I feel like this episode is a legit fear.

PLUS- "Just My Imagination" Season 11, episode 8. We get to see Sam's childhood imaginary friend Sully. I'm a sucker for flashback episodes. I think they round out the characters and you can see how alone Sam is as a child.

PLUS- "The Devil is in the Details" Season 11, episode 10. Lucifer shows more of Sam's life since the beginning of the Supernatural TV show. He's like the ghost of Christmas past. Great recap and flashback.

PLUS- "Into the Mystic" Season 11, episode 11. Dee Wallace Stone guest stars!

PLUS- "Don't You Forget About Me" Season 11, episode 11. Claire, Alex, and Sheriff Mills are back.

PLUS-"Safe House" Season 11, episode 16. Bobby and Rufus are back in a flashback with a parallel story with Sam and Dean.

PLUS- "All in the Family" Season 11, episode 21. Dean and Sam find out Chuck is God and they see Kevin Tran for the last time. (Remember him?) He gets set to heaven, making a new prophet of God Donatello ~ the atheist.

PLUS- "Alpha and Omega" Season 11, episode 23. Billie the reaper gathers enough souls to make a powerful bomb against Amara. They think Amara is killing the sun but the sun is connected to God and God is dying. The perfect song is playing "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying" by Gerry and the Pacemakers.

PLUS- "American Nightmare" Season 12, episode 4. A creepy religious cult family keeps their psychic daughter locked away in the basement and I think this is the first time "stigmata" is mentioned. I find that strange for a supernatural show to finally hit on that.

PLUS- "Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox" Season 12, episode 6. We get a little flashback of Mary Winchester as a hunter and how she influenced a young boy to grow up and become a hunter. We find out Jody Mills had a relationship with him and at his death Mary and Jody finally meet at a gathering of hunters that pay their respects to him. Appropriately "Man in the Box" by Alice in Chains is playing in this episode. I'd say that's a right-on fit for a wake.

PLUS- "First Blood" Season 12, episode 9. Sam and Dean are arrested and in a hidden government facility for what the FBI think is attempted murder of the President. They get out by making a pact with Billie the reaper to pretend they are dead long enough to get them out in exchange for one of the Winchesters to give up their life. Cas find out and kills Billie. It's totally bad ass and his speech after he does it is great.

PLUS-"Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets" Season 12, episode 10. Now we get a Cas flashback when his vessel was a woman. He and his team completed a mission at the turn of the century killing an angel father and daughter. There's a plot twist and again Cas is totally bad ass. The writing is very good in this one.

PLUS-"Regarding Dean" Season 12, episode 11. Dean is cursed by a witch and he begins to loose his memory, the things he says are funny, but it also reminds me of people with alzheimers. Also the cowboy montage at the end of this episode is funny and weird.

PLUS-"Stuck in the Middle" Season 12, episode 12. Has a Reservoir Dogs feel. They end up tacking one of the four yellow eyed Princes of Hell and kill him, but Cas is mortally wounded. Of course he's saved, but it's by Crowley. In this episode we also find out that Lucifer is being held by Crowley back in his older vessel and Mary is working for the Men of Letters but hasn't told Sam or Dean. This was a juicy episode!

PLUS- "Ladies Drink Free" Season 12, episode 16. Claire is back! She gets bit by a werewolf, but is cured. It's nice to see her around.

PLUS- "The British Invasion" Season 12, episode 17. We get to see a flashback of Mick Davies! I love a good flashback. We find out that he had to kill his best friend in school. Just when we start liking him, he's killed by Ketch.

PLUS- "The Memory Remains" Season 12, episode 18. Sam and Dean are sent to hunt Black Philip...er I man Black Bill. (Way to be demon goat trendy guys.)

PLUS- "Who We Are" Season 12, episode 22. It's the same Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode!!!! Sam makes a speech to the American hunters before they go up against the British Men of Letters, Buffy made basically the same speech to the new slayers when they had to go up against the Hellmouth. Also in this same episode Dean goes into his mother's brainwashed mind and she's stuck in a loop, just like Buffy was stuck in a loop in her mind!

I couldn't find the exact clip, but here's the trailer. Willow goes inside of Buffy's mind and she sees her as a young girl with her mother and also placing a book on a shelf as an adult. It represents the exact moment that she gave up.

MINUS- "Red Meat" Season 11, episode 17 is really intense. Sam almost dies, Dean commits suicide to make contact with Billie, the reaper and there's werewolves. At this point is seems like  lots of filler of them fighting monsters instead of focusing on finding Cas and catching Amara.

MINUS- "The Foundry" Season 12, episode 3. Enough with kids already. If I hear a baby crying I would just call the police, not barge into a strange house to investigate.

PLUS/ MINUS- "Thin Lizzie" Season 11, episode 5 takes place at the Lizzie Borden House. ONLY IT'S NOT THE LIZZIE BORDEN HOUSE! I was there, I blogged about it. It a nice nod to her, but it looks nothing like the house. I would be offended if I worked there and saw this episode. The brochure that they show is the real deal though. You can read about the episode here. Oh and the actor Finn Wolfhard, from Stranger Things is in this episode.

PLUS/ MINUS- "The One You've Been Waiting For" Season 12, episode 5 is about Nazi necromancers. The son Christoph is born in Buffalo, NY. And at one point Dean says, "Nobody goes to Buffalo". I like that they mentioned Buffalo, but actually a lot of people come here for the art, architecture, and food! End rant.

It's been a little over a year since I wrote about Supernatural, and it's finally on Netflix with season 15, and let's just say it's the beginning of the end ~ literally. They only have the beginning half of season 15 available to view and they have announced that it will be their final season. I'd say 15 years of a TV show is a pretty good run. It aired until the end of March 2020, and then there were production delays due to Covid-19, so we hope to see the finale later this year...or in my case, whenever it becomes available on Netflix.

I'm not sure if it's me or if I've just watched so much Supernatural, that I felt that these 13 episodes didn't have the passion that past seasons had, and they only brought back characters to make it interesting. Ok, I know that sounds harsh, but the story is Chuck/ God is back on earth causing trouble. Another apocalypse. Duh.

I do like some of the characters coming back, and I really hope Crowley makes an appearance in the last part of season 15 because he was always a favorite of mine, but the acting seems off and I should mention that even my cat Ginger who is in love with Sam isn't interested! She didn't watch any of these episodes with me! So let me review...

The Winchesters and Cas are left in a cemetery to fight all the spirits from hell that were released by Chuck/ God. Sam shot God, so there's a piece of Sam's soul in him and vice versa. Chuck/ God is sick of this version of this earth and essentially Chuck/ God becomes the enemy.  This is introduced in the first three episodes.

Then we are back to monster of the week, with the underlying story of God's rage. He is on a rampage and takes away Sam and Dean's "luck" and destroys all the other worlds, dimensions, and parallel universes that he's made and will soon destroy earth as we know it.

Sam has visions of the other Sam and Dean's that are out there and how they are fighting.

There were some hints at a relationship between Rowena and Ketch, but they both die and Rowena becomes queen of hell. Sam falls for Eileen another hunter but she ends of leaving to hunt on her own. It's disappointing that none of the characters get any "action" in the sexy sense of the word.

MEH S15 E1 "Back and to the Future" The evil souls look like zombies and it looks like a set from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, to the point where Jack even says "it's a Hellmouth thing". Sunnydale in Buffy was on the Hellmouth. We get to see the killers from a previous season John Wayne Gacy, Bloody Mary, Lizzie Borden, Jack the Ripper (also I'm convinced that it real life Jack the Ripper was a woman).

MEH S15 E2 "Raising Hell" Even Kevin Tran is back. We learn that The Darkness/ Amara is in Reno and God is trapped on earth. He needs her to leave.

 MEH S15 E3 "The Rupture" Jack's body dies, Ketch dies, Rowena dies, but not before we have this beautiful witch shot of her.

 MEH S15 E4 "Atomic Monsters" Chuck/ God finds his ex-girlfriend Becky. Yes, THAT Becky that also married Sam is back and she has a nice family that Chuck/ God makes disappear. This is a monster of the week episode with vampires....and Chuck/ God.

 MEH S15 E5 "Proverbs 17:3" Another monster of the week with werewolves. Lilith comes back in a new body.

MEH S15 E6 "Golden Time" Monster of the week, this time it's witches. Eileen the deaf hunter comes to Sam in ghost form and he brings her body back. His spell work is turning out to be really good and he's replacing Rowena in that skill set, so much so that Dean calls him a "Samwitch". (Ok, I might have snort laughed at this in real life.)

MEH S15 E7 "Last Call" Dean's "Eye of the Tiger" karaoke is referenced and it's more like a filler episode.

MEH S15 E8 "Our Father Who Aren't in Heaven" Donatello is back and Jody and Donna are referenced. Lilith is sent to find Michael who's in the form of Sam and Dean's brother Adam. Adam is back.

MEH S15 E9 "The Trap" Now they need a leviathon blossom for a spell, a reference to the big bad from several seasons ago. Claire and Benny are mentioned and Jody and Bobby are seen in a vision.

PLUS S15 E10 "The Heroes Journey" Garth the hunter and werewolf comes back. He was another favorite of mine. He's married with a family and is a werewolf dentist now. Black and white sequence of Garth and Dean tap dancing is fun. Sam and Dean loose their luck, but Garth tells them where they can get it back, The episode ends with Werewolves of London playing. This is a cute episode. It's funny, gory, and I think really showcases that Sam and Dean will get by with help from all the friends they've made along the way.

MEH S15 E11 "The Gamblers" Sam and Dean go to Alaska looking to get their luck back at a pool hall, meanwhile Jack is back and instructed by Death to kill angels and eat hearts to gain strength so he can fight Chuck/ God.

MEH S15 E12 "Galaxy Brain" Chuck/ God begins the destruction of worlds, Jody is in this episode and Alex is referenced. Kaia is back. Both Kaia's switch dimensions so they are back in the right place.

MEH S15 E13 "Destiny's Child" Jack's next quest puts him in the Garden of Eden where he gets his soul back. Sister Jo, Ruby, and Meg are in this episode.

And that's all we get!

Lots of blood draining this season, the music is more contemporary remakes which are terrible, but the addition of honky tonk and country is better and suits the show. All the women working with the Winchesters wear the same thing as the men... a plaid flannel over a shirt and jeans. It's like there was no imagination. I'm hopeful the ending will be epic. They really brought back a lot of characters and if you don't know the history it might be a little confusing this season.

I will always relate to Dean. I often say what he says before he says it and the fact that he was lactose intolerant (like me) for an episode just solidifies that we share the same personality. Lol.
