My Life is Chaos Part 1: Kitchen Remodel

I just wanted to say, “HELLO!” It's been a few months, and I want you to know that I'm thinking about you, and I'm still around. This past fall my life was chaotic. We had a kitchen remodel, our 20th anniversary to Sleepy Hollow, NY, the death of Vicktor, helping my mom sell my gram's house, testing positive for Sjogrens, all on top of working at my business, doing in-store events, and we are in retail busy mode for the holidays. I'm hoping in the new year it will calm down a little. Let me catch you up on things...

We've been planning a kitchen remodel at our house since we moved in almost 20 years ago. In August, it finally started to happen! My frustration over my oven not keeping temperature and being small, having to walk across the kitchen to throw something out, having only about a foot of counter space, a tiny sink, constantly dirty looking floor, tiny cupboards, and more is over!

So we knew what needed to change and had sort of a plan of where we wanted things to go. We didn't knock down any walls, but rearranged where the appliances are located. We moved the refrigerator across from the back door, added a peninsula to the counter where the refrigerator was, got rid of the old oven and got a full size one to fit where the range was. We wanted to keep the 1950s vibe and years ago I purchased vintage fabric that I planned to hang as curtains in our new kitchen ~ IF it ever happened. Well friends, I made the curtains! We based the colors of the new kitchen on the curtains and went from there. The choices for everything were overwhelming but with the help of our friend, and Cats Like Us customer Kelly, she guided us through the process making it painless. If you are local, I recommend finding her at Kitchen and Bath Unlimited. Here's some before and after pics. We started it in August and finished it in October, we still have a couple small shelves to put up by the back door, but it's done.

One thing you don't realize is that when your kitchen is being worked on to the extent ours was, everything that was in the kitchen needs to go somewhere else. We moved everything into our front living room. While the remodel is going on, you also don't have a kitchen to make food in, so for about a month and a half we ate take out or used the toaster oven and microwave in the middle of the living room. I don't recommend it. Here's what our living room looked like for a month and a half. I was miserable. It is a picture of chaos. Needless to say, I wasn't in any mood to blog or share my thoughts. I'm glad it's done. I'll be following up in the coming week with the rest of my Fall 2022 drama, so stick around. Lol.
